Several Major Projects Approved under CPEC during JCC Meeting
Several new development projects under CPEC were signed on the Sixth Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting concluded in Beijing, China. Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal led the delegation from Pakistan followed by chief ministers of all four provinces including Gilgit – Baltistan.
During the JCC session, the development projects that are projected to be finalized by December 2017 were analyzed while nine new projects got an approval from China. Each of the province will get an established industrial zone.
Three important highways are expected to be completed on CPEC’s western route as China has approved a loan of US$ 1billion for the extension of project development. The highways will be connecting Riakot – Thakot, Basema – Khuzdar, Dera Ismail Khan – Zhob. A 1320 MW Coal Power Plant located in Sahiwal will also be finalized in 2017.
Construction of the new railway route connecting Gwadar with Jacobabad under CPEC also came under discussion during JCC meeting. Moreover, Karachi – Peshawar fast Railway track also got an approval in the meeting.
Economic zone to be established in Gilgit – Baltistan region and two more 180 MW power projects were also approved. Several projects for infrastructure and energy for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) were approved while Sindh will be facilitated with 330 MW power plants for both Thal and Hub and an additional 1320 MW coal power plant project will also be completed in Sindh under CPEC.
China is also facilitating Pakistan by funding PKR 1.5 billion for installing Lahore – Matiari transmission line to be used for the provision of 4000 MW of electricity.
