Public Schools Students Will Avail SMS-Based Tutoring System soon
Punjab leads among other provinces in the formation of academic system. Punjab is all set to launch an SMS-Based Intelligence Tutoring System (ITS) in all the Public schools. The implementation of this system is an aim to facilitate the students need for after-school academic guidance. The program will start with two different schedules, starting from November 15th, 2016.
Functionality of Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS)
Under the programme of ITS, the Class 8th students will avail an opportunity to get answers of their relevant questions, related to Math’s and English subjects. Moreover, the system will start working for the Class 4th and 5th students, all over the province by April 1st.
Under this unique learning system of SMS-based tutoring and collaboration of Tech University Centre for Technology in Education (CTE), Finance and Technical assistance of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Department for Int’l Development (DFID) U.K., almost 30 Public sector schools of Punjab would be connected via ITS system, allowing the student/parent to get the required help in finding the relevant answers of their academic questions.
The pilot project of the program is already made functional a couple of months ago in 30 Public sector schools, making a productive outcome for students’ learning. The project aims to deliver quality educational content for math’s and science with the usage of tablets PCs.
“The ITS project has provided an improved outcome of almost 1800 students, with an aim to expand its operations across the country, reaching 100,000 students by the end of December 2018,” Amna Raja, Project Manager, DFID E-learn initiative forecasts.
The funds were arranged by a donor that supports the “Ilm ideas 2 Innovation Education Fund”, she said. The Ilm ideas 2 project has been crowned to Mott MacDonald Ltd. It is funded by the Mott MacDonald’s team, located in Islamabad,’ she further added.
The department was set to launch the SMS-Based (ITS) in almost 100 public sector schools by the April,1st,2017 with the collaboration of the school education department, Waqar Naem Qureshi, PITB’s D.G, IT Solutions, said. “This program is designed for 4th and 5th class students, whose parents will be given a call in the evening to review the study of their children on a daily basis, Furthermore, the students can get the guidance through a dedicated ITS SMS service,” he further added.
The PITB has prepared this ITS software and its applications and are collaborating with the cellular service providers to implement it on priority basis. “The system is unique and new, in view of providing guidance to the students, and we aim for its expansion” Vice Chancellor and Chairman, PITB, Dr. Umar Saif added.
