MoIT Seeks Govt’s Approval to Start 5G Network Testing Phase

Realizing 5G as the next tech buzz in mobile internet, the Ministry of Information and Technology (MoIT) endeavored to seek out the federal cabinet’s approval to start 5G’s trial and testing phase across various cities Pakistan.
If this idea suggested by the MoIT gets its approval, it will permit for the trial phase of this technology and bring Pakistan among a select group of nations to have trialed 5G services. The draft application has been shared with the MoIT and it sketches instructions for the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) and Frequency Allocation Board to find the right frequency spectrum blocks which will be utilized for the testing phase of 5G spectrum across the country.
The State Minister of IT, Anusha Rehman while sharing the draft proposal with the MoIT cabinet stated: “The ministry has been consistent and commitment to accelerate digitalization through the propagation of broadband and mainly mobile broadband. Keeping the focus, we shall guarantee that the Pakistani nation stays at the revolutionary edge of technology and the policy decree is meant to guarantee and exhibit the continued commitment.”

The Chairperson of Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) Syed Ismail Shah while commenting at a workshop some time ago, stated that Pakistan will commence the testing phase of the 5G mobile internet by 2020. Ismail said that “The government would assist all existing as well as new companies to test 5G in Pakistan. The assistance would be in the form of free trial license and spectrum.”
5G is known to be the fifth-generation mobile network which is still in its infancy as tests are being performed in countries like South Korea, US, China and some parts of Europe. 5G is best known for its blazing fast connectivity which is said to be five times better than the current 4G LTE speeds and it is projected that the International Telecommunication Union Radio communication will sanction the 5G standard by 2019.
